The Watlington hoard was recently acquired by the Ashmolean Museum for £1.35M. This talk will explore the story of the hoard, the coins and objects it contains and why it is such an important find for understanding late 9th-century Oxfordshire. John is the Portable Antiquities Scheme National Finds Adviser for post-Roman coinage.
