Finstock Local History Society: Finstock Upon the Hill; Fawler Down Derry

Finstock Local History presents short extracts from the forthcoming local history book “Two Wychwood Villages: Finstock Upon the Hill and Fawler Down Derry”. As well as being an historical account of both villages from earliest times to the Second World War, it also celebrates the work of the society since it began 45 years ago. Author Shaun Morley and a number of contributors will present pieces from the book and artefacts will be on display.

This will be the first book to be published on the two villages since John Kibble's books on the Wychwoods in the 1920s and is a hugely exciting project that has been engaging the society for the last three years. The book has been thoroughly researched and is well illustrated running to over 350 pages and the Society is planning to apply for grants to help to publish it. In addition the Society will be seeking subscribers to commit to purchasing a pre-publication copy of the book (a funding method common in Victorian times). All subscribers will receive a numbered copy of the book with their name printed inside; they will also be invited to the launch party in 2020 when the book is published. The subscription price is £30.00 per copy.

Do come along to find out more about this project and hear about the history of the two villages. Admission is free and wine and nibbles will be served. The bar will be open from 7.30pm.
