Finstock Local History Society: The Oxfordshire Home Front, 1914-1918, by Stephen Barker

An assessment of the impact of the war in the towns and countryside that will focus upon fundraising and charitable events, munitions production, recruitment, the effects upon women and children, the fear of invasion, the influx of Belgian refugees and many other themes. The talk is fully illustrated and uses testimony from those who were there.

Stephen is an independent Heritage Advisor who works with several heritage organisations including the History Faculty, University of Oxford and the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum. Stephen specialises in military history, particularly the First World War and British Civil Wars and is a Trustee of the Bucks Military Museum Trust.

8.00pm @ Finstock Village Hall, OX7 3BU. Refreshments available from 7.30pm.

Annual subscription each September, entitling free entry to all talks and qualifying events: £15 single, £20 couple. Non-members: £2.50 per event unless otherwise stated.
